1980 Huffy Aerowind Early 1980~s Huffy Aerowind. Has shimano AX components, though not the models you see on higher end bikes. The brakes are Shimano AX parapul~s which is a center pull braking system. Three piece shimano cranks, steel rims, and 1" x 1 3/8" gumwall tires. The handlebar wrap and seat are not original. Wrap was tan cotton, and seat was grey suede(Avocet made in Italy) The seat was in as pristine shape as the bike was, so I didn~t want to leave it on the bike of course. It was a stroke of luck even finding a Huffy road bike in this shape, much less one that is 20+ years old:-) Hope you enjoy it.
Very cool blog! I linked your post on the Schwinn Spitfire to a piece I wrote over at jwm's world famous blog Check the post 3/24, and 2/7 (Bikes and Connected Parts) Feel free to link the pictures.

Love the old Huffys! Well... some of them.
ReplyDeleteI want to see more weird Iversons (a Racer model) someday.
Just Googled this blog from looking for pictures from the Monson swap.
Will you be bringing anything down to the Do-Right Flea Market? I think Mike would like that! If you're interested, give him a call and THANK YOU for supporting bicycle riders and keeping the wheels rolling.
From what I've read elsewhere online, we are very fortunate to have our Huffy Aerowinds. They are evidently extremely hard to come by. Mine was a hand-me-down from my father, and I plan to rebuild it into a fixed gear this summer.
ReplyDeletewow, i have an all original (except the seat and bar tape) aerowind in perfect condition! got it for dirt cheap, and have taken it apart to paint and make into a "cooer" bike. I knew it was nothing great but i didn't know it had the sentimental value and obscurity. maybe ill just put that thing back together and find someone who would appreciate it
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm lucky.I just bought 2 Huffy Aerowinds [a men's and a women's]at a local garage sale. They're both original. They both need new tires and going through. But over all ,they're pretty clean.
ReplyDeleteI recently bought a a 26" wheel version of the Aerowind the frame is a little different from the 27" version. This bike is no way near original and will be stripped down and built back up as a fixed gear.
ReplyDeleteI was sixteen in 1980 when i purchased my bike and now i Just stumbled onto this site and its great to read all the storie's of fellow aerowind owners. I too have a 1980 road racer all original parts including tire's ,good condtion, look's good also. I am cosidering departing with it soon, but now with all theese great storie, im having second thoughts. I have other bikes and i ride the aerowind rarely, "any advice" or anyone interested?
