1953 Rudge-Whitworth

(Click for full photo)

1953 Rudge-Whitworth An old gentleman had been cycling this 1953 Rudge-Whitworth for the past 40 years through the streets of Stellenbosch before I spotted it! It is in original condition barring the saddle and tires. It has 3-speed Sturmey Archer gears (handlebar-mounted shifter). The rear hub has the date code 53 7 on it, indicating that it was manufactured in July of 1953. The original headbadge is still in place and indicates that it was made in the town of Springs, South Africa. It has it~s own locking system with key mounted on the frame.

1987 Ryobi motor adapted to bike

(Click for full photo)

1987 Ryobi motor adapted to bike Ryobi biycle motor second picture. To get a better idea of how this motor goes together, I have included this shot. The drive spindle is supported on the other side of the motor by a bearing. These motors have a half crank which is to say that there are only bearings on one side of the motor. Placing the bearing on the other side helps to support the spindle. If you leave the extra bearing off, there will be a bit more preasure on the one bearing inside the little motor.

1965 Elswick

(Click for full photo)

1965 Elswick Elswick ~tradesmans cycle~ standing in guards van of an old slamdoor train. I have since replaced the plastic seat with a proper Brooks B66 saddle and acquired a trailer which I happily cycle around with up to 100lb loads. Single speed, rod brakes, fitted with 26 x 2 x 1 3/4 inch road tires. It has also been used to take 2 children in the trailer and a proper picnic basket in front of the Elswick whilst my other half uses her favourite old Hudson ladies cycle.
